sad day [05 Dec 2008|12:19am]
[ mood | sad ]

Lenny fell ill yesterday very suddenly .

I held him and rubbed his belly.  He purred and looked up at me with gentle sad eyes.  I fed him pedialite with an infant dropper and talked quietly to him of what a great cat he was.  I cleaned his snout with a warm cloth and he fussed but looked grateful.  He couldn't fight off the infection and died while I was at the office this afternoon.  I wish I had been here.

He was a good cat.

Let's Dance [26 Nov 2007|11:59pm]
[ mood | rejuvenated ]

So maybe I'm the last person on earth to play this game, but I'm in love!  DDR (Dance Dance Revolution for those not in the know) is the most awesome game ever.  I have my own personal night club.  I've seen th machines around for years, but never wanted to make an ass of myself in public throwing dollars into some silly machine.  Frank's roommate turned me on to a FREEWARE program called StepMania that runs on pc.  You just plug in the dance pad via usb and dance like the freaky fool you know you are in the privacy of your own home.  This is teh rule.

I haven't had a lot of time to do anything lately between work and school and this is not only giving me my much needed dance outlet, but also a great cardio workout.  So far I've found 480 something songs online including Bowie, Adam Ant, KMFDM, Chemical Brothers, etc, and a whole mess of crazy japanese pop music.   I spent most of Thanksgiving weekend obsessing over my new toy.

Go now and buy yourself a dance pad!  Site for the freeware is www.stepmania.com.  IM me on googletalk and I'll send you some of my files.

This is one of the shallow views.  I think its what I would look like if I were born a monkey

I had the joyous experience of being crammed in a tube at 7:00 this morning and have ultra loud noise music pumped into my ears for 30 minutes. The results are pretty fantastic.  272 images of my brain cross sectioned in every way imaginable.

update [23 Aug 2007|10:46pm]

Friday is nearly here and I'm looking forward to having my husband here with me again.  I need a break from Law & Order and cleaning.  A girl can only dust and sweep up cat hair so much.

I formally put my name in the running for a promotion at work.  I'm a bit nervous, but its like 10 months before my boss heads back to the Netherlands, so better now than after they start looking at outside candidates.  I'm feeling weirdly preasured now though to be all prompt in the AM and be all "professional".  Its probably just me being paranoid, but I feel like everything I do now is going to be extra scrutinized by management.  I mean I know that I can do the job and they'd be lucky to have a person with my skill and integrity running the team, but still I wonder if them all knowing me so well might make an outside candidate more appealing.  I always speak my mind and although they know I have mad skill, thyey also know I'm a goofball that doesn't come in until 9 most days and likes lolcats a little bit too much......

I was told to put together some formal plans on what I would do differently withthe department.  I have ideas (I have managed a department this size before) but I'm just not sure where to start.  I also feel a bit akward putting my business cases together knowing that my current boss might take offense that I don't agree with his  current methodolgies.  I dig my dutchie boss, I'm just a different style manager than he is and I don't want to cause any unecessary tension between us.  He did seem cool with me making a move for his job though which was nice to hear.

wow, I didn't realize I was so nervous about this until I started writing about it.  hmmm.

goose love [07 Jun 2007|10:04am]

Our management team went out for a celebration dinner last night at Joel in Buckhead.  The first course of our five course meal was Foie gras coupled with a chilled German reisling wine.  It was delicious.
The technique of gavage is not very appealing, but the result is like nothing I've ever eaten before.  It doesn't have the pungent flavor usually associated with organ meats.  I was mild and creamy and was served with a pear chutney.  You spread it on toast.  I'm still salivating just thinking about it.

French cuisine is so tasty.  I just wish it wasn't so expensive.

finally made a choice [26 Apr 2007|12:55am]
I think I've finally found a winner. Glock 26, maybe the 19 (we'll see). I need to find a shop that has both in stock so I can decide if it feels right, but this sounds like a winner. 9mm, 10-12 rounds, sub compact and easily concealable. Time to start saving my pennies and find a good training course.

bored in Vancouver [24 Apr 2007|01:25am]
Work travel is boring boring boring. This is my third time to Vancouver in six months and all I've seen is this Holiday Inn and the YVR airport. Granted I do get to see the dark underbelly of the airport where all of the luggage goes and the noisy business gets done, but I'm bored silly. Vancouver has like 300 public broadcast channels. This is the second night in a row that I'm watching a documentary about Queen Elizabeth. BTW, she kicks ass. I wasn't aware that the monarch officially does rule the country. She has the authority to declare ware and fire, yes fire, the Prime Minister if she so chooses. I dig her.

Tomorrow is another action packed day of negotiations and coffee drinking. I'm hoping to get into the city itself for dinner tomorrow night. I need to do a bit of googling and find out where to go. With the three hour time difference I'm about ready for sleepy nigh nigh by 9pm, but here it is 1:30 am local time and I'm eating room service cheesecake and trying to stay up until a reasonable hour. Fading quick though. I miss Frank. Sightseeing is no fun alone. I promised I'd bring him a present this time though so I need to get out of this room and explore.

What American accent do you have?
Created by Xavier on Memegen.net

Northern. Whether you have the world famous Inland North accent of the Great Lakes area, or the radio-friendly sound of upstate NY and western New England, your accent is what used to set the standard for American English pronunciation (not much anymore now that the Inland North sounds like it does).

Take this quiz now - it's easy!
We're going to start with "cot" and "caught." When you say those words do they sound the same or different?
